This year Neighbourhood Solidarity with Unhoused Neighbours has committed to supplying at least 100 toothbrushes to be distributed at Project Reconnect. Project Reconnect is an annual event that invites anyone to come by and learn about services available to help those who are homeless or precariously housed. In past years attendees have been able to enjoy a sit down meal, get their haircut, get help with their taxes on the spot, find some clothing items that they need and be provided with a bag of hygiene supplies and cold weather accessories (gloves, warm socks, toques and – drum roll – toothbrushes). This year’s event will be on September 22 at the Central Baptist Church (833 Pandora) from 11 am to 3:00 pm.
To donate toothbrushes you can drop them off in the box at the Fairfield Gonzales Community Association centre at 1330 Fairfield Road, Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm (except for stat holidays). If you can’t make it to the centre but still want to help consider making a donation via the FGCA Canada Helps page (select dropdown #3 Supporting unhoused people in the community in the ‘Fund’ box). Tax receipts are available for donations of $20 or more.

There is also the possibility to volunteer at the event in a variety of roles from greeter to helping serve the hot meal to set up/tear down.
