On August 2, 2026, a group of us gathered to support Heather chalk Housing is a Human Right on the black hoarding at the construction site from 926-930 Pandora. Photos of that as well as the sign over the subsequent days are below. We were told by many who live/spend time along Pandora that it would be painted over by the construction company in pretty short order which did in fact happen but not until Tuesday, August 4, since Monday, August 3, 2026 was a holiday.
August 11, 2026 Update
Today Heather and Susan convened on the block at around 1:30 pm and did their chalking. As of 4:05 pm it was still up but who knows what tomorrow will bring.
August 10, 2026 Update
The message stayed up until the morning of August 10th when the construction company painted it over. Heather went down to the block to find it gone and here is what she reported in an email:
“… as I was walking there today I thought will this be the day that I get a ticket? Two or three men from the construction site came out and confronted me, “this is vandalism, you must have lots of time on your hands because you’re doing this everyday, why don’t you get a sign blah blah blah what’s your name“. Then they commenced to look like they were calling the police and or bylaw. By then I was finished with my chalking which I had been continuing to do while they were talking to me. M. met me on the block and we left for coffee. About an hour later I’m back on the block and talking with A. and D. from SOLID and B. and I look over and they are taking it down again so I got a few photos, but I haven’t looked at them yet to see what they’re like if there’s anything good I’ll send it your way.”
So by the end of August 10th there was no message on the hoarding despite Heather’s best efforts.
August 4-9, 2026 Updates
Heather returned in the afternoon of August 4th and redid the message (getting faster each time) and did so again on August 5th, August 6th and August 7th (with some help from Susan on Friday the 7th). People are engaging with the message – not always in positive way – but to our mind any interaction is good interaction, our purpose is to raise awareness and get discussions started.
We’ll keep updating this post as the game of chalk and paint over continues and we welcome ideas for how we might use another method along the block to create a message that isn’t being constantly removed. This would most likely mean putting our message somewhere else that isn’t subject to being painted over each day.
